Hatteras Island galleries launching ‘First Fridays’ summer series

Empty Nest Studio and Gallery

Hatteras Island’s community of art galleries will present a “First Fridays” summer series showcasing the vibrant art and creative island community beginning June 7.

There will also be events on July 5 and Aug. 2.

The June event collaborates with “Rock the Cape,” with seven galleries offering activities, along with after-hours music and island fare.

At Sandcastles, you can make wind chimes from driftwood, shells, and sea glass or learn pottery at Kinnakeet Clay. Swell Art Gallery will feature demonstrations by mixed-media artist Kim Perry, who creates seascapes on tiny canvases.  Empty Nest Studio & Gallery will feature demonstrations by owner/jewelry artist Crystal Blackmon, and will have coleslaw and fish shooters with sweet tea in the evening.

Sandy Bay Gallery features a trunk show with fabric artist Dana Chandler Smith and Family Jewels will have punch, cookies, live music on the deck and lamp work bead demonstrations. At Blue Pelican Gifts & Yarn, fiber and mixed media jewelry artists will be at work through the day.

For more information, see the event’s Facebook event page.
