Water main break interrupts service in Stumpy Point; Spectrum internet out, too

Potable water service to all customers of the Stumpy Point Water System was interrupted as a result of a water line break Thursday. And in an apparently unrelated matter, all Spectrum internet service on the Outer Banks was down Thursday afternoon.

“Based on the potential for contamination from cross-connections or back-siphonage, customers in the Dare County Stumpy Point Water System are advised that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice) or use bottled water,” the Dare County Water Department said in an alert. “Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.”

Samples will be collected throughout the affected area to confirm the microbiological quality as soon as pressure is restored. The System Pressure Advisory will be lifted once water and system pressure is restored. At that time a notification will be sent. Customers may experience periods of low pressure and discolored water until full service is restored.

Spectrum customers on the Outer Banks from Corolla to Manns Harbor lost internet service on Thursday afternoon. Emails to Spectrum’s media relations department were not immediately returned. The “Ask Spectrum” feature online reported no outages for the Outer Banks, but the website DownDetector.com showed hundreds of Spectrum internet outages Thursday afternoon, mainly along the East Coast.
