If you pay any attention to local social media, you know migrating whales are not an uncommon sight this time of year along the Outer Banks. But a close encounter like the one captured at Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills on Wednesday, that’s a rarity.
Humpback whales are heading north after wintering in the Caribbean, some with babies in tow. Keep an eye out for them the next few weeks!
