Update: Damaged fiber optic cable caused Spectrum outage on Wednesday

Spectrum customers lost their cable, internet and phone service on the Outer Banks Wednesday afternoon and evening, after a fiber optic cable was damaged.

Our social media accounts and phones started blowing up around 4:30 p.m. with listeners and readers asking about the outage, which may also be impacting Charter Communications’ operations in other markets.

Service was restored for most customers by 10 p.m. Crews located the damaged cable in a swamp, but the exact location has not been announced.

What were you doing the night of the Great Spectrum Outage of 2019?
