Despite rumors to the contrary, access to Cape Point in Cape Hatteras National Seashore remains open to off-road vehicles and pedestrians.

The National Park Service says an access corridor has been established just west of The Point as a buffer for an American oystercatcher nest.

The corridor continues along towards South Beach, then reopens for additional access.
