Norfolk artist Sam Welty will put the finishing touches on his Wright brothers tribute memorial at the Super Wings in Kitty Hawk Thursday with a special guest — a budding artist losing her eyesight to illness.

Ariana Music, 27, will assist Welty in finishing the mural wall, which he says honors achieving the “impossible.”

“This is the 18th in my Great America Mural Series,” Welty said in a news release. “I love painting murals that tell the story of an area. Often people are unaware of the history in their town. I enjoy sharing that story.”

Welty’s large works are well known and quite visible around the region. His murals are featured at the entrance to DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton and at the Outer Banks Sports Club in Nags Head.

Ariana Music is a Hampton Roads resident and budding artist. She has been battling multiple health issues, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma. As a part of her health issues, she has begun losing her eye-sight.

Welty and Music will meet at the Super Wings about noon Thursday to finish up the mural, which is 100’x20’ on the side wall at the Super Wings, at 4116 North Croatan Highway in Kitty Hawk.
