Grandy – William David Hamm went home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2019 in Elizabeth City, NC. He resided with his sister, Deborah Gibson-Midgett in their Grandy, NC home.
David was the father of six children and eight grandchildren. David also fought for our country and earned the right to call himself one of the great veterans of the Vietnam war.
David is survived by his sisters Deborah Gibson-Midgett of Grandy NC, and Jane Reed of Decatur Alabama; and one brother, Jimmie Heisler of Decatur Alabama. Both David’s mother and father are deceased.
David loved anything western, music, dancing, poetry, and had a major sweet tooth for Hershey bars. He loved to write music and play his guitar. David especially loved listening to gospel music and being surrounded by family and friends. His Vietnam motto was believe in God and remember- to really live you must nearly die.
Family and friends are invited to join the family at David’s funeral Thursday October 10, 2019 at 11 am at Poplar Branch Baptist Church, 709 Poplar Branch Road, Grandy NC. May he rest in peace with all our love.
David will be laid to rest privately at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
