In a video posted Thursday, Dare County Health & Human Services Director Dr. Sheila Davies spoke with Dr. Roger Lever from Sentara Healthcare about his most recent experiences with patients that have contracted COVID-19.

“Dr. Lever was sharing what he has been seeing in the hospital within the last two weeks and how bad the lung damage is in otherwise healthy patients. All unvaccinated,” Davies said.

“While he does not know for sure if it is the delta variant, it is definitely different from what he has been seeing and it is very concerning,” Davies said.

Davies also shared that Dare County has moved back into the red on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s coronavirus spread map.

And with 41 positive tests already recorded this week, Dare County is on track to surpass last week’s total which was the third straight week the case count had increased.
